Job Description

Rivian Technician

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary: This position is designed for emerging to mid-level Technicians who are eager to grow their technical acumen while delivering an exceptional customer experience. As part of our junior talent pipeline, you will work closely under the mentorship of senior technicians and leadership to support EV repairs, inspections, and field service operations. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments, possesses strong communication skills, and brings a passion for innovation and adventure. While based primarily at a local service center, this role may involve remote work, traveling for mobile service, or supporting plant operations as business needs evolve.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Service & Repair: Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections—whether at a service center, mobile route, or remote location.
  • Technical Guidance & Learning: Learn to identify and explain the product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories while establishing peer relationships and working under the mentorship of senior technicians.
  • Procedure & Safety Adherence: Utilize available technical resources and follow repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct road tests on vehicles post-repair to verify repair quality and ensure operational safety.
  • Parts & Operations Management: Assist with day-to-day parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, inventory tracking, and work order/expense reporting.
  • Documentation: Maintain proper, detailed technical notes and documentation for all completed and in-process repairs for internal and external use.
  • Customer Interaction: Perform duties with high professionalism when interacting with customers, families, third-party affiliates, and suppliers at service facilities or outreach events.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify process areas for improvement, provide constructive feedback to mentorship leads, and participate in service campaigns or containment initiatives.
  • Professional Growth: Actively engage in required training, stay current on evolving technical skills, and maintain high-quality work with minimal supervision as experience increases.

Key Qualifications:

General & Operational Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or recognized equivalency credential preferred. Minimum age of 21 years old. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no suspensions or revocations within the past 3–5 years). Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer is preferred. Availability for a standard 40-hour workweek, including potential shifts on weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, or overnights based on business needs. Flexibility for travel to regional locations or production facilities as needed. Proficient with laptops/computers in Windows or Mac environments, as well as work order management systems. Eagerness to learn, strong organizational skills, time management, and high attention to detail. Ability to perform physical tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Education & Experience: Graduation from an accredited automotive repair school/program is highly preferred. 0–3 years of hands-on experience in an automotive shop or technical environment; open to recent graduates looking to launch their career. Basic exposure to electric vehicle (EV) / hybrid frameworks, or experience working in fast-paced start-up environments is a plus.

Technical Foundations (Junior Level Focus):

  • Electrical & Systems: Foundational understanding of basic electricity theory (high voltage vs. low voltage awareness), basic circuit measurement tools (DVOM), and introductory exposure to reading electrical schematics.
  • Chassis & Maintenance: Familiarity with basic hand and power tools, entry-level tire repairs, and basic vehicle alignments.
  • Diagnostics & Workflows: Basic understanding of diagnostic workflows and troubleshooting steps under guidance.

Pay Disclosure: The hourly range for this role is $28.13 - $38.74 for New York based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26, including but not limited to paid vacation, paid sick leave, and a competitive portfolio of insurance benefits including life, medical, dental, vision, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance to eligible employees. You may also have the opportunity to participate in Rivian's 401(k) Plan and Employee Stock Purchase Program if you meet certain eligibility requirements. Full-time employee coverage is effective on their first day of employment. Part-time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
